Rivers State, Five (5) NYSC Corps Members Kidnapped, Police Command Began a Manhunt
The Rivers State Police Command has begun a manhunt for those behind the abduction of five National Youth Service Corps members in Omademe, Ikwerre Local Government Area.
The five corps members, comprising four females and one male, were kidnapped by unknown gunmen in Omademe Community in Ikwerre Local Government Area.
It was gathered that the kidnapped victims were on their way to inspect their community development project when they were accosted and whisked away by their assailants.
But the state Police Commissioner, Mr. Suleiman Abba, told THE PUNCH that security operatives had begun a vigorous search with a view to rescuing the victims and also apprehending the kidnappers.
Abba explained that security agents began a spirited search of all the surroundings where the five corps members were abducted in order to trace the victims.
He said, “Several police teams have since Tuesday night, when the incident happened, embarked on a vigorous search in the surrounding areas of the incident.
“The search is still on to trace the victims and the vehicle used. Also, all hands are on deck on the investigations that will lead to the rescue of the victims and arrest of the suspects.”
However, authorities of the NYSC are still shocked over the abduction of the corps members.
The state NYSC Public Relations Officer, Mr. B.O. Esan, expressed sadness over the development, adding that they were making efforts towards ensuring the release of the corps members.
Esan said though they were yet to get the full details of how the five corps members were abducted, NYSC authorities in the state had reported the matter to the police and the State Security Service.
He said the incident occurred at about 7.30pm, even as he promised that the state Director of the NYSC, Mrs. Esther Wogbo, would brief journalists after getting enough details on the matter.
A similar incident occured in Eche Local Government Area of the state when five corps members (all females) were kidnapped and taken to a bush in Abia State.

this is abosolutely ridiculous....it is now kidnapping after killing them somwhere else. Please President Gudluck should not fold his arms and be looking while all this is happening to Youth copers. its getting out of hands.
