Context/Scope

It is recognized that there is an increasing threat posed by counterfeit activity (and illicit alcohol) to the growth ambitions of our brands in Africa, and urgent action is required. The focus of the role will be to ensure that we understand the issue and mitigate it.

Brand Assurance Manager will have responsibility to run the total Anti-Counterfeit (AC) programme and deliver what has been agreed.

Dimensions:

Financial

The Brand Assurance Manager oversees an operation that must secure the integrity of millions of Sterling worth of stock and protect/recover GN assets and fiscal property against the risk of fraud, faking and misappropriation.

Market Complexity

Key task is to assess, investigate and reduce counterfeiting incidence. Illicit and counterfeit trade participants are engaged in a multi-million sterling industry, which is by its very nature complex, secret and highly profitable. There are many challenges in the identification of those involved in the manufacture, shipping, distribution, sale etc. of unauthorised products, determining proof of involvement with suitable evidence, and ensuring effective legal action is taken.

Purpose of Role

The role of AC unit is to protect both our consumers and brands by identifying those involved in the production, movement and sale of counterfeit Diageo products, both beer and spirits, and in bringing such operations to an end with the closure of production sites/ arrest of illegal operators.

Market Complexity

Reports to the Regional Distributor Manager. Responsible for the development of distributor infrastructure and capability. Currently 300 distributors at various levels of capability.

Purpose of Role:

The Distributor Development Manager has accountability for developing and sustaining amazing value adding business relationships with our key distributors. They develop and drive our joint strategy and plans with distributors, have direct performance and P&L responsibility and a strong focus on working with distributors to develop the capability within their organisations. DDM is also accountable for leading a RTM Executive team and develop and drive our strategy and plans with Wholesalers/Stockists. These roles operate at the market, cluster or region level depending on the size and complexity of both the market and the distributor.

Key Relationships

Close contact with the Head of Security and Corporate Relations Director.

Close interface with heads of departments in Guinness Nigeria especially in Quality.

Close contact with the Security, Finance, Sales, Procurement, Corporate Relations and the Customer Services Teams.

Close contact with local Enforcement authorities, Brand Protection, Standards and other government agencies.

AC Heads of other international and large local companies within the country.

Close contact with senior Management of AC units cross-border.

Top Accountabilities

Engage the AC’s leadership team and take responsibility for delivery of market AC mitigation plan

Conduct/manage investigations into suspected counterfeiting incidences and liaise with relevant law enforcement agencies where appropriate

Identify suitable operational opportunities for further financial investigation including civil action procedures and exploitation of Intellectual Property laws.

Manage and direct intelligence programmes and investigations ensuring that targets are rigorously profiled and subsequent intelligence is exploitable within the appropriate local legal framework

Qualifications and Experience Required

Be a mature individual, with a minimum of 5 years experience in security or anti-counterfeiting management.

Must have at least a 1st degree. A law enforcement background is desirable.

An in-depth understanding of the issues surrounding counterfeiting

Possess good communication skills in English, which he is able to exercise at all levels.

Possess commercial & analytical skills.

Understands the nature of Human Intelligence gathering techniques.

Ability to deal credibly, and professionally, with Diageo Managers, government officials, lawyers and outside investigators.

Barriers to Success in Role:

Inability to plan strategically.

Loss of personal integrity

Inability to properly identify risks, and plan mitigation steps.

Absence of networking and external engagement capability.

Job Title: Divisional Sales Manager

The Nigerian drinks market is relatively unsophisticated, but highly dynamic.

A key contributor to the success of the GNPLC strategic plan is an effective & flexible field sales force demonstrating industry leadership in both volume driving & brand building activity.

Dimensions:

Financial

Responsible for Divisional Field Sales Force Overhead budget and effective use of all Marketing spend used by sales force

Purpose of Role:

Responsible for Overall management and delivery of Business goals within the division.

Ensures KPI’s are reviewed during, and at the end of each month.

Insight

Proactively utilises Intouch information to query sales managers on achievement of agreed objectives and targets during weekly call overs

Inspire

Has a deep understanding of the Structured Selling process and coaches Sales Managers on ‘coaching’ to build great sales capabilities amongst the sales teams

Top Accountabilities:

Achieve profitable volume/market share target for the Division

Ensures achievement of sales drivers objectives for Division

Identifies training needs of ASMs, BDMs and RDMs, works with Training Dept and HR to build sales capability and ensure a talent pipeline

Responsible for business growth and capability development of key trade partners within the division.

Ensures our trade spend is deployed to gain full return on our investment.

Responsible for managing and enhancing the corporate reputation of Guinness Nigeria via adherence to corporate governance procedures.

Qualifications and Experience Required

Graduate with 5-10 years minimum commercial expertise gained across Consumer Marketing and / or Sales

Management. A strong track record in Sales at a management level, with experience in at least two areas of Sales.

Particularly critical is previous experience of Field Sales or other customer facing roles.

Strong leadership and communication skills –written and verbal

Strong capability and able to coach others in Sales Drivers, Managing Relationships (including negotiation skills),

Sales Force Effectiveness, Outlet Segmentation, JUBP and Targeted Trade Investment. These roles are particularly important in championing the Responsible Drinking agenda through the Field

Previous experience of leading / managing others, delivering results through teams and strong track record as a coach.

Experience of change management is particularly valuable.

Previous exposure to strategy development is valuable. Strong project management skills, commercial and financial capability are important.

Previous experience of working with other parts of Sales and/or other functions is particularly valuable.

Barriers to Success in Role:

Essential to spend time in the field with the team members and customers - need to stay in touch with the market

Flexible working options:

Based in one of the Divisional offices.

Minimum 50 % Field Based ideal.

Some travel to Lagos HQ essential

Role requires flexible working times, working late into the night and weekends.

Manage a comprehensive employee communications strategy and plan that directly supports the business strategy, vision and values and uses a range of appropriate tools and is measurable

Developing and executing plans for the design, writing and production of external communications materials, including brochures, memos, newsletters, etc.

Ensure optimal management of the PR agencies

Qualifications and Experience Required

Proven track record in communications and communication strategy development
