Nigeria Port Authority Statutory Duties And Functions
- Develop ,own and operate ports and harbours
- Provide safe and navigable channel
- Offer cargo handling and storage services
- Maintain Port facilities and equipment
- Ensure safety and security
- Develop and own property
This system hindered port development and curtailed operational efficiency. The ports became less competitive and a conduit to drain the meager national resources.
In an attempt to change this trend, the activities of the Authority (NPA) were commercialized and offered greater autonomy in accordance with the recommendation of the Technical Committee on Privatization and Commercialization. However this could not bring the expected improvement because of the public service bureaucracy and interference. It was later revised to the initial status.
The Nigerian Ports Authority wishes to recruit a suitably qualifiedcandidate for the position of:
General Manager, Security
The Authority, a government owned agency with offices in the under-listed locations is charged with the responsibility of ensuring, among others, security of lives and properties:
Headquarters, Lagos
Lagos Port Complex
Tincan Island Port
Rivers Port, Port Harcourt
Onne Port
Calabar
Delta Ports, Warri
Abuja Liaison Office
Overseas Office, London
Responsibilities
Among others are:
Provision of operational security support for the organization
Legislative compliance with security related protocols, conventions, codes etc.
Coordination of the activities of the security department in conformity with international best practices
Qualifications
Minimum of B.SC/HND in any of the Social Sciences
10 years experience in Military/Law enforcement agency with 5 years in management position in the rank not lower than Lt. Col/Asst. Commissioner of Police/Director, State Security Services
