AfDB Graduate Internship 2011/2012-African Development Bank

AfDB Graduate Internship 2011/2012-African Development Bank

Know your employer

  • The AfDB, its sister international finance institutions, including those of the Arab world, and other partners are working with authorities in Egypt and other North African countries to build foundations for growth that are inclusive and sustainable. The African Development Bank (AfDB) Group is inviting comments on its Draft Energy Sector Policy to encourage its stakeholders to provide feedback and input.
  • Background: Africa is well-endowed with a variety of renewable and non-renewable energy resources. However, most African countries are characterized by low access to affordable and reliable modern energy services. The Bank Group has accorded high priority to the energy sector and elaborated its first Energy Sector Policy in 1994. In light of new developments in the energy sector and emerging development challenges, especially the growing importance of climate-related energy issues, the Bank Group is revising its energy Policy to guide its interventions in the sector.
  • AfDB Graduate Internship 2011/2012-African Development Bank

The broad objectives of the program are to:

  • provide students with an opportunity to acquire professional and practical experience at the African Development Bank
  • provide the Bank with a pool of potential candidates for future recruitment purposes.

However applicants should not expect the internship to lead to immediate employment with the AfDB.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for internship, applicants must meet the following criteria:

Applicants must be:

  • students, aged between eighteen (18) to thirty (30) years, and currently enrolled in a master’s level degree programme or its equivalent in a recognized public or private institution of higher learning. The candidate can apply for an internship within one year of having obtained such a degree.
  • provide a letter from their school confirming their enrollment.
  • citizens of one of the Bank’s member countries
  • applicants must be fluent in, at least, one of the Bank’s working languages (English or French).

Application Procedure

Applicants are required to send their application through this form and forward it, with the endorsement of their educational institutions, to internship@afdb.org.

Completed applications must reach the Bank:

  • duly completed AfDB internship application form, counter-signed by the applicant’s educational institution or sponsoring agency
  • current CV and cover letter
  • copies of the latest certificates and transcripts or equivalent institutional records
  • a recommendation letter from the academic institution they are currently attending
  • a brief description of the program or the topic (thesis or dissertation) to be prepared during the internship (when applicable).

Please note that only complete applications will be processed.

Duration / Timing / Location of Internship

Internships will initially be for a period of three months, renewable for up to six months maximum.

The internship program for 2011 is closed. The timing for the 2012 program is as follows:

  • Winter – Session I: January through March 2012. Application period from 1st July 2011 to 30th September 2011
  • Summer – Session II: June through August 2012. Application period from 1st December 2011 to 28th February 2012

Terms and Conditions

Interns will be provided with a monthly stipend of 550 UA (AfDB moving average exchange rate applicable in February 2011 is 1 UA=1.52486 $ = 1.15781 Euro = 2.19509 TND).

Interns will be responsible for their airfare to and from the location of their internship, their visa if needed and will be required to have international medical and accident insurance coverage for the duration of their internship.

All enquiries regarding the internship program should be addressed to:

Human Resources Management Department

African Development Bank
P.O. Box 323-1002 Tunis-Belvedere, Tunisia
FAX: (+216) 71 83 14 72 or E-mail: internship@afdb.org

Facts About AfDB

AfDB is to be congratulated in this bold step to revise its 1994 Energy Policy that was largely unimplemented. having said that, the document for consultation lacks analytical basis to support many of the guidning principles and strategic actions. Perhaps these will be contained in the annexe that are not attched. Some refrences are too ols like the IEA from 2002. I suggest rely on more recent refrences from the OECD, IEA, other MFIs particularly the World Bank, etc. The draft lacks tables, charts, figures, past investment and future investment trends. soem figures quoted from the CEIF (March 2008) may be outdated. Suggset use more recent figures from the IEA. UNDP is amother excellent source of several energy policies. Much is left to be anticipated in form of the Strategy (under consultation) and future guidelines.
