Duration Of Initial Contract: Three (3) Months

Background
Under the guidance and direct supervision of the Service Centre Manager, the Intern will support the implementation of the UNDP Country Office's sourcing strategy to promote easy access to vendor information.

Duties and Responsibilities

Objectuve:

The Intern is expected to support the work of the Service Centre in the overall effort to enhance procurement in support to UNDP’s programme delivery in Nigeria.

Specific Tasks
The Intern will work under the direct supervision of the Service Centre Manager for a period of 3 months and will carry out the following tasks:

  • Assist in the regular updating of the vendor information in UNDP approved sites.
  • Assist in the inputting selected vendor’s information and other data in the VDMS.
  • In coordination with the Service Centre Manager compile the list of selected vendors from the EOI for Contract Committees consideration.
  • Assist in the organization of existing files for easy access to information. Provision of the logistics support to the events.
  • Assist in establishing an electronic library in the Service Centre’s share point.
  • Other relevant tasks as may be assigned by the Service Centre Manager and other appropriate senior management staff of the Country Office.
Deliverables and Timelines

  • UNDP Country Office VPMS updated with approved vendor data in different area of procurement; (Aug 2012). 
  • Service Centre vendor contact list updated (Sept. 2012).
  • Electronic library share point established (Sept. 2012).
Competencies

  • Excellent organizing and analysis of information skills;
  • Good in the use office machines and equipment;
  • Ability to work in a competitive environment and with diverse cultures and with minimum supervision.
Required Skills and Experience
Interns are selected on a competitive basis.

The following minimum qualifications are required:

Education:
Enrolment in a relevant graduate-level degree programme such as business administration, economics or social sciences. Only those students who will return to their studies upon completion of their internship assignments are eligible.

Language Requirements:
Fluency in English.
Working knowledge of another UN language is an asset.

Conditions of Internship:

  • Interns are considered gratis personnel.
  • They are not staff members.
  • Interns are not financially remunerated by UNDP.
  • The costs associated must be borne by the nominating institution, related institution or government, which may provide the required financial assistance to its students; or by the student, who will have to obtain financing for subsistence and make his or her own arrangements for travel, accommodation, visa etc.

About UNDP Nigeria

UNDP has been in Nigeria since the country became independent in 1960. In the last programme cycle (2003-2008), UNDP provided capacity building and policy development support to the Federal Government and 21 states drawn from the six geo-political zones in four programme areas: Governance & Human Rights; Poverty Reduction; HIV & AIDS; and Energy & Environment.

In November 2008, the Federal Government of Nigeria and UNDP agreed and signed a new 7th Country Programme that runs from 2009 – 2012 under the UN Development Assistance Framework, UNDAF II. The 7th CP offers a menu of programme options and components from which the federal and participating states government partners could chose. They are: i. the Economic Governance Programme, ii. the Capacity for Governance Programme, iii. the Private Sector Development Programme and, iv. theSustainability and Risk Management Programme. The 7th CP will be implemented through effective partnership with relevant federal government institutions and selected states.

UNDP will work in a total of 14 states of the federation. It will implement programmes alone in the following 7 states: Anambra, Bayelsa, Delta, Niger, Ondo, Rivers and Sokoto. Working with other UN agencies UNDP will carry out joint programmes in another 6 states and the FCT, viz; – Adamawa, Akwa Ibom, Benue, Imo, Kaduna, Lagos and the FCT in the spirit of ‘delivery as one.’ In addition to working with federal and states government partners, UNDP will also partner with other stakeholders such as donors, development partners, academia, media and Civil Society Organisations.

The Country Office engages mainly in strategic upstream support and catalytic downstream activities, all aimed at enhancing human development and promoting the MDGs in Nigeria. Under the Economic Governance programme, (EGP) UNDP will provide strategic support to the Government’s fiscal planning to achieve medium to long-term development priorities. It has three sub-components: – Development planning and statistics, Fiscal policy reform, and Aid coordination.
